Why Do Americans celebrate 4th of July?
4th of July is a massive historical day for Americans. It is a national holiday in the United States as it is the declaration of independence. On this day, thirteen colonies of America declared themselves to be states than to be a part of the British Empire which was a huge revolutionary war.
The thirteen colonies that marked this war were Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Georgia, Connecticut, Massachusetts Bay, Maryland, South Carolina, New Hampshire, Virginia, New York, North Carolina and Rhode Island and Providence Plantations.Earlier, these colonies were a part of the British Empire and were exploited for their resources like tobacco, sugar etc., which created tension between the colonies and the British Empire.Due to these conflicts, a team of people of the Continental Congress, that is, delegates from each of the thirteen colonies sat down which resulted in the war of independence against the British in 1775.
This day is celebrated by fireworks, speeches, parties, feasts and well known activities related to Independence Day. It also serves as a reunion and occasion for holiday.
Initially in 1870, Congress made this day as the unpaid holiday for federal workers but in 1939, it became a paid holiday across the nation. The government officials also take part in the celebrations and make speeches.
