Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary

Also known as Keoladeo Ghana National Park, it is located in Rajasthan. Thousands of birds descend here during the winter season. Over 230 species of birds reside here.

 

Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary

It is situated in Gurgaon, Haryana. This bird sanctuary is relatively small and comprises a shallow freshwater Sultanpur Lake. Many migratory birds reside here from distant regions like Siberia, Europe, and Afghanistan.

 

Kolleru Bird Sanctuary

Kolleru Bird Sanctuaryis located in Andhra Pradesh and houses the largest freshwater lake in India, the KolleruRiver. Birds migrate from northern Asia and eastern Europe during the months of October and March. One can spot teals, pochards, spot bills, brahminy ducks amongst many other species.

 

Chilika Lake Bird Sanctuary

It is located in Odisha and is one of the biggest breeding areas of flamingos in the world. In winters, the highest numbers of birds migrate here. This sanctuary houses NalabanaIsland, which is a forest of reeds.

 

Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary

It is located in Kerala which houses waterfowls, cuckoos, owls, egrets, herons, darters, brahminy kites, and other migrating birds. The birds fly in from Himalayas and Siberia.
