India is considered to be a developing country and education is one important aspect that helps the nation grow more and more each day. The literacy rate of India has now reached 74% which was only 12% in 1947. The 10 Indian states with the highest literacy rates are as follows.
Kerala
With about 93.91% education, Kerala is the most educated state of India. Since 1991, Kerala has been recognized as the most literate state of India. There has been an increase of 3% since the 2001 census.
Lakshadweep
Moving from third position to the second, Lakshadweep’s literacy rate is 92.28% now which is 5.62% more than the 2001 census.
Mizoram
The land of the Mizos and one of the seven sisters in North East India, the state of Mizoram ranks third among the educated states of India.It has a literacy rate of 91.58% which is 2.78% higher than the 2001 census.
Tripura
The most drastic change that has been seen among the states of India is in Tripura. Tripura ranked 13th in the list earlier but made extreme changes and is now the fourth most educated state of India with a literacy rate of 87.78% which is 14.56% higher than the 2001 census.
Goa
Goa was ranked fourth on the list but due to some reasons in dropped down to the fifth rank. It is still showing some improvements in the same field and hence, now has the literacy rate which increased to 87.40% and is 5.39% higher than last year.
Daman and Diu
With a literacy rate of 87.07%, Daman and Diu holds the sixth position in the list after an increaseof about 8.89% since the 2001 census. Even though it still ranks sixth, the literacy rate of this state is increasing at a very rapid speed when compared to the other states.
Pondicherry
After being ranked eighth on the list, the literacy of Pondicherry has been increasing rapidly, and it has now become the seventh most educated state of India. The literacy rate of the state is 86.55% which is 5.31% higher than 2001 census.
Chandigarh
Chandigarh used to rank fifth on the list but due to some reasons it is now the eighth most educated state of India. The literacy rate is still about 86.43% which is about 4.49% higher than at the time of 2001 census.
Delhi
The capital city of India, Delhi, ranks ninth on the list after it dropped down from the sixth position. If compared to the 2001 census, the literacy rate of Delhi has increased about 4.6% and is now 86.34%.
Andaman & Nicobar Islands
The union territory of Andaman & Nicobar Islands has the literacy rate of about 86.27% and has increased exactly by 4.97% from what it was during the 2001 census.
