Best Places to Visit in Goa
Goa is the smallest state of India along the Arabian Sea. Its capital is Panaji, and it is very famous for its beer, cashew, beaches, and parties. History states that it used to be a Portuguese colony earlier due to which the Portuguese style houses or hotels can also be seen. Sea food is very famous there. It’s a place where tourists can enjoy beach, water sports, bars, cafes, local markets, casinos, forts, cruises and much more. The best time to visit this place is from October to February as it’s the peak time of tourism. The weather is great and so is the crowd. If you want to enjoy loneliness and no crowd, then you can visit during summers as well. The following are the places that you must visit.
Calangute Beach
This beach is one of the most populated beaches of Goa and also the largest in north Goa. It is the busiest and most commercialized beach during the peak season. The beach coastline is crowded with shacks, restaurants, clubs and shopping outlets. It is also known as ‘The Queen of Beaches’.
Fort Aguada
It is a 17th century Portuguese fort and is located on the Sinquerim beach in North Goa. Two things that one must see inside the fort are the 13 meter tall lighthouse and the vaulted cistern which can store up to ten million litres of fresh water.
Chapora Fort
It is the most popular place due to the Bollywood film ‘DilChahta Hai’ which was shot here. It is located on the Chapora beach. It offers some beautiful views of the coastline from the top.
Basilica of Bom Jesus
Christianity being the main religion, there are lots of churches in Goa amongst which one is the church of Basilica. It is a UNESCO world heritage site where the mortal remains of St. Francis Xavier are preserved.
Few other places that you can visit are Dudhsagar Falls, Ashwem beach, Arpora night market, Vagator beach, Candolim beach and many more.
