According to the Indian Constitution, children between the age group of 6 and 14 have the right to free and compulsory education. Indian education is provided through private as well as public sector with funds from central, state and local governments. There are four main boards in India, according to which the students are taught in schools.

Indian Certificate of Secondary Education

Indian Certificate of Secondary Education is a non-governmental board of examination by Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination for class 10. The board is designed to provide general education to the students for examinations. This was done through the New Education Policy 1986 (India). Before 1986, ICSE was affiliated by the French Board of Examination. The syllabus of ICSE class 10 is double the syllabus of CBSE class 10. Hence, it is considered to be the toughest board in India. The English of the board is quite difficult than other boards and good students have an edge in competition.

Central Board of Secondary Education

Under the Union Government is the secondary board of education(CBSE), which is found in both- public and private schools. The schools affiliated with it follow the NCERT curriculum. CBSE conducts examination for both class 10 and class 12 as well. The board used to also conduct examinations for AIEEE Examination for admissions in undergraduate courses like engineering and architecture. It also conducts examination for AIPMT for admission in the medical colleges in India.

National Institute of Open Schooling

Even though established for distance education, NIOS has become a formal and regular secondary and senior secondary program similar to CBSE. It also comes under the Union Government and its main aim to provide education to children living in the remote areas. Through this board, children can study without attending regular schools. This is also considered to be public examinations due to its flexibility. It was established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development in 1989.

International Baccalaureate

International Baccalaureate (IB) is a non-profit education system that is present in more than 3000 schools in 141 countries. IB has a different way of educating students and therefore, its content is extremely innovative. Its main aim is to help students develop in all aspects of life rather than just in academic sphere. At present, it can be seen in schools in the metro cities of India.

State Boards

It is difficult to state when exactly the concept of state board emerged. As the name suggests, each state conducts its examination for class 10 and 12 with accordance to their own state board. The benefit of a state board is that the students gain knowledge about their state and the topics are of local relevance.

Demonetization is an act where a currency unit is stripped off its status as a legal tender and this occurs only when there is a change in the national currency. The few countries that have experienced demonetization till date are as follows.

Nigeria

Demonetization took place in Nigeria in1984 during the government of Muhammadu Buhari. The economic system did not take the change very well and debts and inflation hit the country. Hence, the economy of Nigeria collapsed.

Ghana

There was an increasing number of tax evasion and liquidity in Ghana in 1982. In order to tackle the situation, the government introduced the scheme but the black market of the country won the support of the people which made the economy of Ghana, weak.

Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe saw a period of demonetization when in June the holders of the Zimbabwe dollar were asked to hand in the currency to the banks by September 30, 2015. The banned Zimbabwean currency was a hundred trillion dollar note and its ban gave the country’s economy a hard hit.

North Korea

Kim-Jong Li introduced a reform in the currency that removed two zeros from the face value of it with the aim to end the black market. This led to a serious downfall in the life condition of the people.

India

With a sudden ban on two of the Indian notes, India has been trying to cope with the demonetization, which took place in November 2016.

Pakistan

The Pakistan demonetization was dissimilar to the one that was carried out in India. The motive behind this move was to replace the old currency notes with the new designed notes instead of banishing the black market.

The constitution of India, through article 315 to 323, has provided the establishment of the Public Service Commission for the centre and each state as well. This set of Articles handles the composition, appointment and other duties of the Public Service Commission. The Union Public Service Commission has many functions to perform, one of which is to conduct examinations to recruit officials for All India Services. The similar function is that of the State Public Service Commissions present to conduct examinations for recruiting personnel for State Services. There are various other differences between the UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) exams and MPSC (Maharashtra Public Service Commission) exams which are discussed under.

Firstly, both the exams require certain qualifications to appear for the examinations. The UPSC examinations require the candidate to be between 21 years to 32 years of age (general category); the MPSC exams require the candidate to be between 18 years to 33 years of age (general category).

Secondly, while the candidate who wants to take the examination to be a part of MPSC has to either have a Bachelor’s degree from any recognized college or be in the last year of graduation; the participants of UPSC exams have to have a degree from a recognized college only and cannot appear while still in college.

Thirdly, a candidate from the general category can appear for the UPSC examination about four times; while for MPSC exams, one can appear as many times as one wants.

Fourth, apart from these criteria, one has to be a citizen of India or a person having Indian origin who has migrated from specific countries, in order to appear for UPSC exams. And for appearing in the MPSC exams, one has to be a citizen of India and have a permanent residence in the state of Maharashtra.

Lastly, although the pattern of the examination is the same, the syllabus for both is quite different.

Both exams have three levels— Preliminary exam, Main exam and Interview; covering all aspects of the country and the state. The UPSC and MPSC exams are two of the toughest examinations to crack as these determine the high officials for the governments.
